Femy's "masterworks"
My sister, Femy, is an eight-year-old girl who is currently a 2nd grader at Divine Light Academy in Las Piñas City. She is a daddy's girl, a spoiled brat, a sweet child, a thoughtful daughter, a stubborn student, and a cunning playmate.... all packed in one small body. She loves to draw and make letters/messages for her loved ones.
Every time she's bored or got nothing to do, she'll just get a piece of paper and draw anything that she likes. After that, she will post her drawings at my parents’ room. When you enter the master's bedroom, it would be impossible for you not to notice the works that she made. They are all colorful and bright. One will never fail to notice the messages that go with the drawings. Messages like... "I luv u sooo match", "I well olwas be wid you", and "My ate is the best sister of ol! She by me fries from jalibee!!!”. It makes us laugh most of the time because of the misspelled words and grammatical errors but all the same, we can see the sincerity of a child. The things that she creates never fail to make us feel that we are loved and appreciated.
Now… Why am I telling this to you people? Why am I bothering to write something that involves my family? This is an art blog, right? So… why am I ranting about my sister’s grammatical errors and stuffs that wouldn’t be interesting to other people?
Well, we have an assignment in my artapre class. And Ms. Castro asked us to bring something that we consider “a work of art”. I can’t decide on what to bring. I mean, I consider a lot of things as art but I don’t know how to substantiate my choice. I reflected for a few moments and asked myself, what is art for me? I remembered what I wrote on the information sheet given to last Wednesday. I stated that art is an act of expressing one’s true self. Then *BOOM*!!! I decided to bring one of my sister’s “masterworks”.
House. Family. Tree.
Happy
Sisters! Ate Nikka and I
I chose these pieces of drawings because these express the thoughts and emotions of its creator. These works may not be as extravagant as Michel Angelo’s and Da Vinci’s but it certainly conveys a child’s insights and feelings regarding her family. The drawings obviously lack "form", "originality", "significant history", and "universal substance" but to me and my family, it has meaning. For us, her sketches show her opinion and feelings about our family. It shows how she views our relationship. Remy’s works make me feel warm inside. Through her works, I can see the representation of her love towards our family.
I believe that an art must always capture human emotions. And I saw that in my sister’s works that’s why I decided to write something about her and presented some of her “art works” in this blog entry.
